Artist Bio:
Becca Jett (b. 1991) is a lifelong artist currently practicing in Philadelphia, Pa. She grew up in rural Northern Pennsylvania and graduated from Keystone College (Scranton, Pa.) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, concentrations in Sculpture and Printmaking, and a specialization in Art Therapy in 2014. Her current body of work is softly psychedelic, utilizing color theory, geometric shapes and a meditative repetition of patterns to evoke an emotive experience in both the artist and viewer. Jett’s work is inspired by her grandmother’s quilts, Abstract Expressionism, Sonia Delaunay, Op Art, and nature.
Artist Statement:
Ever since taking an online landscape watercolor painting class in the summer of 2020, I have been exploring the medium in non-traditional ways. This experimentation quickly led me into my current work of geometric abstraction, patterned grids and color theory. These paintings create tension between materials and colors; the contrast of viscous paint constrained within straight-edgings alongside complementary colors evoke emotion. My process is intuitive yet precise, non-objective but somehow relatable, and comfortingly repetitive.
