This must be the place
Artist Bio:
Kellianne McCarthy works with oil, acrylic, and collage on wood panels. She is known for her saturated color palette and blend of imagery, abstraction, and pattern. She uses those elements to create spaces where the concrete and surreal meet. Influences filtered into her work include the graphic design of Peter Max, altar pieces produced during the Renaissance, and the ungraspable vastness of the universe. Her paintings evolve using a combination of deliberation and accident. She was born in Philadelphia, PA. She received a BFA in Painting from Moore College of Art and Design in 1992. She is a Registered Nurse currently working in Philadelphia. Statement: Layers of inspiration Content filters in through: lyrics, poetry, sounds, the city Nothing exact but notions. Try to look too hard and I can’t see it. It’s in the corner of my eye. Outerspace: I know out it’s there. Wrapping my mind around definitions akin to describing a color. Black holes, neutron stars, supernovas. extremely luminous active galactic massive cosmic star explosions. Wonder. Music: The music I listen to while working in the studio is integral to the creative process. The “in the studio playlist” has been curated over many years of listening and creating. Music impacts the process in a subliminal sense. It facilitates the sweet spot necessary for creative flow. Hitting that groove is the most productive time in the studio. It’s when my subconscious and conscious minds come together to create. It’s when I forget what time it is. This must be the place. On repeat. Thank you Taking Heads for the melody and the words. Wonder again. “Feet on the ground, head in the sky… If someone asks this is where I’ll be.”
